NEW YORK — Toyota has sold a new, small-car version of its popular Land Cruiser that sells for more than $4 million.
Toyotas Land Cruiser, a sedan that was originally built for the US military, debuted at a New York auto show last week, but it has yet to make its way into dealerships.
It’s not yet clear how much the Land Cruiser has sold at dealerships, but the automaker is advertising it at $4,800, $4 to $6,000 a day, or even $5,000 to $7,000 daily.
A Toyota spokesperson told the Associated Press the Land Cruisers price is “not yet determined.”
“We have made some improvements to the exterior of the vehicle and will begin selling them at a later date,” the spokesperson said.
The Land Cruiser is a “small car” version of the LandCruiser, which is designed for the military, with a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine and a 3.5-liter six-cylindered V6.
But the Landcruiser has been a favorite among Americans since it debuted at the 2008 New York Auto Show.
“There’s not a single car in the world that we don’t want to have in our backyard,” said Matt Fenton, a veteran car dealer who owns LandCruisers in Washington, DC.
He said the Land cruiser is also a good alternative to the Toyota Prius, which costs about $7 million.
“It’s an easy car to drive.
It’s not like a Prius where you have to do everything,” he said.
The Land Cruiser has sold well in the US, with more than 1.6 million sold since its introduction in 2008, according to the Kelley Blue Book.
